The Academy of Medicine has 115 Active members, 29 Emeritus members and 45 Non-resident members. Potential members are nominated with applications consisting of two letters of recommendation from active members, a nomination form, and their curriculum vitae. Materials are reviewed by the Admission Committee and a recommendation is forwarded to the Academy Board of Directors who determine whether membership is offered. Only active members pay dues, are eligible for office, may serve on standing committees, and have the right to vote on Academy matters. The number of active members in the Academy is limited to 175. An Active member who has been in good standing for at least 15 years and has fully retired from their full-time professional activities may upon request, be transferred to Emeritus Membership. An Active member who has moved from the Washington D.C. area may request transfer to Non-Resident membership.
